Christmas hangover, take two.

December 26th, 2007 by Pavlina

I like everything about our home computer except for the mpuse and keyboard. They suck. Slow response which leads me to more typos than usual, which means more time to write a post and the sluggish response of the mouse means i often click where I don’t mean to. Like just now, when I almost had this entire post finished and I accidentally clicked on a link in my toolbar. I’m totally getting new input devices, this is maddening. So it means that you won’t be getting the really great post I had originally written. SO now I have switched to my laptop, but, oh good grief, you don’t want to hear all about this any more than I want to write about my holidays for the second time. I really wish that word press would save your data in the fields when you go back or forward. Thats all.

So today, I am trying to decompress, but really I am just all worked up because it is 9:30 and I really wanted to be sitting here vegetating instead of fighting with useless technology. The family left today, Jason left today so I am all alone with my sleeping children. I had planned on getting up early and doing some shopping, because if you can believe it, we just didn’t get enough crap over the holidays.

I went into my kitchen on Saturday afternoon and just left this morning. I made dinner on Saturday, Dinner on Sunday, appetizers for Monday and dinner/lunch for Tuesday. I took last Friday of from work so I could finish up some shopping (gift and food) finish the gift wrapping and get the cookies decorated. Then the in laws showed up on Saturday and into the kitchen I went.

They brought so much stuff, I almost passed out. Look, a picture is worth a thousand words.

gifts under the tree

So, out of the visible packages in this photo, the ones from Jason and I are:

  1. Shrek
  2. The Sharper Image and the big Green bags
  3. The three green Elmo wrapping papers gifts

Everything else was purchase by four people, and aunt, an uncle and two grandparents. My family was not represented as my mom gave us cash for the kids and my sister gave us gift cards. Okay, a few of those were for Jason and I, and of course there are more gifts behind everything else that you can’t see that we bought, but still. Argh! Martin got so much stuff for hi play kitchen that there isn’t room in it to store everything. Emma got a doll that cries and pees and what else I don’t know. I am going through and taking away the kitchen dupes and I am putting th doll away, Did I mention that said doll came with a crib, three sets of clothes, and an extra pack of diapers? Did I also mention that said doll, clothes and diapers are getting PUT AWAY because why on Earth does a not-quite-two year old need a fully functioning doll for? She already had a doll. That was bought for her last Christmas by them, why on Earth did she need the deluxe model? So that’s what I am doing before I go to bed, raiding the toys and putting some away, luckily they got so much they (hopefully) won’t miss them. Anyhow.

Did I mention the cake I made? I think the more appropriate term is cake dessert. I got the recipe from the Joy of Baking and it is a Christmas cranberry cake (or something like that)

This is the top view, and here is one from the side…

that’s Jason holding the yellow tea towel up in the background. This cake tasted better than it looked and considering, it was not too difficult. I highly recommend it. So I leave you now, with a few more pictures. Merry Christmas and we’ll talk again soon.
