I don’t get it. I have/had a MySpace page, but I just think/thought of it as another PITA. It was yet another page for me to update and write on. I have this site and this already takes more time than I have, so MySpace is now Other Peoples Space, I don’t use it anymore and good riddance. Twitter I do like, just create an account and twitter away, although I have been rather lazy about adding friends on there as well.
Facebook, I don’t get. I have heard this buzz about people using it to reconnect with their old high school classmates. My high school class has three members on Facebook, including myself. Well, I can only think of a couple of things here.
- A plague specific to Roosevelt High School Class of 88 occurred, leaving only us three alive.
- We are so old no one knows how to find and use Facebook.
- No one else cares
I’m thinking number three. Which leaves me to reason why my high school class is so apathetic. If course I am not really one to talk. I never did go to my 10 year reunion. Why bother? I was just about to start graduate school and was in the process of a divorce. Not really the highest point in my life. Who wants to brag abut that at a reunion?
- Me: “Hi former classmate A, how have you been in the last 10 years?”
- Former classmate A:”Fine Pavlina, I started my own company and I am making millions, how are things with you?”
No thanks. So why am I complaining about these people not being on Facebook? I have no idea.
So instead of connecting with my former high school classmates I try instead others. Who are these people on Facebook? I try my job, my college, my grad school. All these people are complete strangers to me.
Maybe I just don’t know anyone. I am invisible. I thought I went to these places, but really no one ever saw me? No, I don’t think so. Even if I was invisible I would surely remember some of these people? Good grief.
