Pavlina: Life is Not For the Living

Are people just too distracted these days? I mean, what is going on?

Last week I was leaving my house, taking the children to the pediatrician. We live on a road that ends in a cul-de-sac and at the head of the road is a mini roundabout. There are a lot of these on the road that feeds all the cul de sacs. On one side of the mini roundabout the road is straight and on the other side you actually have to drive around. They alternate so when you drive down the road you go straight around one then you have to drive around one, etc. They call them “traffic calming” and they are there to prevent crazy drivers from speeding down our residential street. I have seen large trucks and such go the wrong way down the straight side only. I guess it keeps them from digging large ruts into the lawn around the traffic circles becasue the trucks can’t make such a tight turn.

Unfortunately I have also noticed a large numbers of cars doing this, and driving much faster than the posted 25 or 30 mph speed limit. Why you would want to drive faster than this thourgh a residential area is beyond me, but I guess I am not a jerk so I don’t understand.

Anyway I was taking the kids to the pediatrician and this lady was going the wrong way around the circle just in front of our street and she was totally in my lane. what a jerk.

Then I was driving to work this morning. I was slowing down to take the right turn, I was indicating and everything, this monstrous SUV decides he does not want to slow down for a half minute, and swerves half way out of the lane, into the next lane, does no even indicate and swerves back in front of me, in the intersection no less. What a  jerk. Ugh.

I don’t know if it is because everyone is on the phone, or listening to their ipod or what but it seems to me that no-one pays attention to their driving anymore. Too bad for the rest of us.
