Pavlina: Life is Not For the Living

Comments are everywhere. Most websites these days are dynamic, with a section of current information with comments below. You know what I mean, just look down there. Well, no comments yet on this post. It goes without saying I read sites which get more traffic than mine, and this increased traffic results in an increased number of comments. I like reading through other people’s comments. They can be very interesting as I see how different people react to the news (story, anecdote) we all just read. Maybe I read it and thought, “wow, how stupid” and someone else will read it and think, “it’s brilliant!” I just usually shake my head because after all, we are all entitled to our own opinion. If someone else thinks David Tennant was a better doctor than Christopher Eccleston then hey, they can talk that crazy talk. I’ll just roll my eyes and say, ‘whatever fool” in my best Mr. T manner (and don’t even pretend you don’t know who Mr. T is, fool!)and keep going.

Of course, I mean all this in the most light hearted of ways. Sometimes I read a post and it makes my blood boil. How dare they say Tennant was better! Wisely, I usually manage to keep my mouth shut because I only know it from my perspective (Eccleston is THE new Doctor!), which isn’t universal so I have no business making what works for me apply to all fans everywhere (but you know it’s true).

So when I read a comment that I don’t agree with, it usually just rolls right off. Except for this one.

What a bunch of bull crap. more crap for the government to tell people what to do .I also come from a family full of heavy smokers and i have no health problem and i am 43.this is just something more to rule us with. grimmmey I guess you agree with science so much you also dont believe there is no god .we came from apes too according to them .
Lets start with drunks ,they kill whole families at a time.!!!!
what about the food you put in your mouth with all the poison in it
from persertives and the stuff you breath from cars and chemical plants.LOL a cigarette is the least of your worries. oh and by the way dont be using any diet sweetners.read up on some of the stuff you put in your mouth or your childrens.And last the side effects from meds you give your kids and take your self..

Whoa! That was taken verbatim, bad grammar and misspellings intact. Why someone would even post this comment and expect to be taken seriously, I don’t know. Listen, we are ALL entitled to our opinion. Even this person above is entitled to it. When you have an opinion and you are trying to enlighten others, it always helps to have grammar to include, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure. Really, it does help. So next time you comment before you have a chance to run it through the internal editor, take a slow, deep breath before hitting submit, make sure that you have good grammar, use spell check, the go ahead and release the comment. I mean, this comment would have been so much better, No?

I must voice a dissident opinion. It is my belief this is more propaganda from the government to tell people what to do. I come from a family of heavy smokers and I have no health problems; I am 43 and a marathon runner. This above post is just proof the government is using misinformation to rule us. Grimmeny, I suppose you all agree with science specifically Darwinism that theorizes evolution and so you do not believe in the story of Creation, therefore you also do not believe there is a God.

It is my belief that alcoholics are a much worse scourge. When they drink and drive they may kill an entire family!!! Another point is the safety of our food supply. There has been numerous cases in the news over the past years demonstrating poison in it! Some preservatives are found to be carcinogenic and worse. Let us also think of all the poisonous and noxious fumes we inhale everyday from cars and chemical plants. LOL!
I believe a cigarette is the least of your worries.

Okay, I know there were a few more sentences for me to translate but I grew weary. That was exhausting. I am a scientist, and I find much of that person’s comment inaccurate, but I think you can agree with me that the rewritten form would at least get most people to read it and try to understand the other person view, instead of the first comment that just makes 99% of people rolls their eyes and think “what a buffoon”.

So while I do realize that you probably aren’t leaving comment of the first type on a regular basis, let’s all try to leave more civilized comments out here in the ‘sphere. Thanks.
