Yard sale? Shut your mouth!

July 23rd, 2007 by Pavlina

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. My weekend was not so nice. I spent Friday night setting things up for the yard sale, the I spent Sat morning moving things out to the drive way, the I spent the next five hours sitting out front. The grand total of my sales? $0.00 That is ZERO. I sold nothing, nada. No one wanted anything. I made a couple of mistakes. I missed the classifieds deadline for our local paper. My signs were not big enough. I will work on both these things next time. I was so upset! I heard about all how great yard sales were and how much money one could make and I came out of the experience wiser. Now I know, ADVERTISING is the MOST IMPORTANT part of a YARD SALE!!! The catch phrase for real estate is Location, Location, Location and for yard sales it is Advertise, Advertise, Advertise. I only wish I knew this two weeks ago. Oh well, you live and learn. In the meantime I will post the larger things on Craigs list and put some of the nicer clothings sets on ebay. Anything I should know about selling kids clothes on ebay?

This proves that everything in my life has to take on drama.

I do good with kids clothes at garage sales. I advertised the garage sale on craigslist and put signs out at the road. I pre-bag the outfits in ziplock bags and pre-price. I usually sell them at 1.00 an outfit or 2.00 for better brand outfits. The ziplocks help alot to keep the clothes neat, otherwise 1 hour into your sale your clothes will be a jumbled mess. Give it another go. I do 2 sales a year and have regulars who come just cause they know I buy good clothing for my daughter.

*Sigh* I did post on Craigslist. No love. Everyone that came by was not interested in my baby stuff. Funny, because that is what I listed was for sale. It was all, “Oh, you only have little things?” All day. Maybe it was just the wrong time of year. What a waste though…
